Nova West Island offers specialized care and support to persons suffering from cancer or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Our mission in palliative care is to enable people to stay at home with their loved ones as long as desired.
Professional staff and dedicated volunteers work closely with clients, caregivers and community health care agencies to provide comprehensive, compassionate, quality care.
Home nursing visits, arranged in collaboration with clients and/or family members allow for assessments, teaching, symptom management, accomplishment of nursing tasks and always active listening. Twenty-four hour on-call service.
The need for involvement of other team members (support workers, volunteers, Carousel for children) is regularly evaluated and arranged.
Family or client can telephone for assistance or have referral sent from CLSC, hospital or doctor.
Bereavement group sessions are offered three (3) times a year. The next sessions of Together through grief will be held April 9, 2011 - May 28, 2011 and will be animated by a trained therapist. For more information and to register please call the NOVA office at 514-695-8335.
